Steven H. Spitz, CEO co-founder of Javen Construction Co., Inc. After a 41 year career in construction and 33 years at the helm of Javen Construction, Steve has passed the baton to the next generation removing himself from day-to-day operations. As CEO he will he will continue to be involved as the Chairman of the Board of Directors and an important adviser continuing to share his vast knowledge and insight garnered through years of building a respected, successful construction company to the current management team.
Jeffrey P. Spitz, President, Project Executive. A fourth -generation Spitz in the construction business, Jeff began his career working in the field during the summer after studying carpentry in high school at BOCES. After earning an Associate of Science Degree from Finger Lakes Community College, Jeff worked as an Assistant Project Manager while completing his Bachelors of Science in Construction Engineering from Rochester Institute of Technology graduating with honors, Phi Theta Kappa and Phi Beta Gamma, in 2004.
As a principal of the firm, Jeff is committed to Javen’s core values to ensure client satisfaction and continued success as an organization. Working closely with the project managers, he is involved from pre-construction through close-out. Jeff is instrumental in maintaining Javen’s long-standing relationships with clients such as Rochester General Hospital, UBS, and Linden Oaks giving these private clients as much time and attention needed to move their projects forward to a successful completion.
Brendan J. Spitz, CDT, Vice President, Project Executive. True to the family tradition, this fourth-generation contractor gained experience by working in the field to learn the trade. Adding on that experience, Brendan has managed a wide array of new-build and renovation projects in both the public and private markets and offers experience in key sectors such as hospitals, office parks, and university/public school systems. A Buffalo resident, Brendan joined the firm in 2008 after graduating in 2004 from SUNY University at Buffalo and working several years for a Buffalo general contractor. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Management Information Systems and is a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma Honors Society.
As a principal of the firm, Brendan will continue working to foster long-lasting relationships with clients and architects in Erie and the surrounding counties by consistently delivering our clients with quality projects of the highest standards in a safe and ethical manner. Clients such as Roswell Park, LiRo Engineering, Foit-Albert Associates, Stieglitz Snyder Architecture, and Campus Construction Management can attest to his ability to drive fast-tracked projects, his keen eye for detail and his creative problem-solving. Brendan will oversee Javen Construction’s Buffalo area projects and resources remaining dedicated to Javen’s fundamental ideals. Having served the local construction community as a council member of the Associated Builders and Contractors, Western New York Region from 2009 – 2014, Brendan is keenly focused on growing Javen Construction’s presence in the Buffalo marketplace.
Tracy S. Moore, Secretary/Treasurer and Administrative Executive, manages the day to day office operations including accounting, risk management, management information systems, and human resources. A graduate of Pine Manor College, she worked in corporate offices in both manufacturing and retail environments before starting a home-based business that would allow her some flexibility to care for young children. Her work for Javen as a client led to an opportunity to join the firm full-time in 1992 and to later join Steve as a principal of the firm in 2007. Tracy served on the Associated Builders and Contractors Rochester Region Council from 2008-2014. Joining the original board of the Empire State Merit Apprenticeship Alliance, a multi-employer NYS DOL approved apprenticeship program in 2008, she continues to serve as a member of the executive committee. It is through this work that Javen remains committed to the training of the next generation of tradesmen.
Kevin Harris, Sr. Project Manager, was already a seasoned professional when he joined Javen Construction in 1998 having worked for both general contractors and developers. He earned a Bachelor’s of Science Degree from the L.C. Smith College of Engineering at Syracuse University earning a place in the Chi Epsilon National Civil Engineer Honor Society. Utilizing his education and skill set, Kevin has worked in the community on the Town of Greece Plumbing Board, Buildings & Grounds Committee at St. Michael Parish School and is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
Kevin has been instrumental to the success of a wide range of projects in the public and private marketplace. Managing large, challenging public projects for local school districts, such as Penfield, Newark, and Victor, he is known as a knowledgeable professional giving the care and attention necessary to bring these difficult projects to completion. Working diligently for private clients with high expectations such as Patrick Pontiac, CDS Monarch, Rochester Institute of Technology, and Linden Oaks, Kevin has consistently delivered superior projects.
Thomas “Whitey” Charland, Sr. Project Manager is a 1990 graduate of SUNY Alfred with a degree in Civil Engineering Technologies. He has gained expertise working for firms from several construction disciplines. Whitey’s reputation as a smart and knowledgeable project manager were confirmed when he joined the firm in 2003. ACI Level 2 certified, he has extensive knowledge of concrete and masonry systems, while his experience as a residential carpenter and a woodworking hobbyist adds to his understanding of building systems.
Whitey has completed successfully such new building projects as SUNY Geneseo Putnam Hall, Steuben County Nursing Home and North East Joint First District and he has completed many renovation projects such as Honeoye Falls CSD Phase 1C, Brockway Hall at SUNY Cortland, and Canaseraga CSD. In 2012, he began the renovation of a LEED Certified, $20 million gymnasium project for Buffalo State College that was completed in the spring of 2014. It is Whitey’s vast construction knowledge and experience that brings these challenging projects to a successful completion.
