Buffalo State College Houston Gym Opens

Having been closed for 18 months to complete an extensive $20 million renovation, the Houston Gym is now open.  Students and staff will enjoy the well-equipped exercise facility and weight room; sports teams will enjoy the many new amenities such as new locker rooms, team rooms, and therapy room equipment with a hydrotherapy tub; and the College will enjoy the new energy-efficient updated mechanical systems.  Using the school colors and logo throughout the building, visual interest is accented by athletic-themed murals on both interior and exterior glass  and a video-wall in the gym corridor.  This newly renovated building earned a LEEDs Silver rating and is an athletic facility the Buffalo State community can be proud of for many years to come.

Monroe Veterinary Associates Breaks Ground

Monroe Veterinary Associates (MVA) broke ground on a new 15,000 square foot expansion at Veterinary Specialists & Emergency Services (VSES), the only 24-hour veterinary emergency and specialty facility in the greater Rochester area.  During the first phase of construction, Duncan’s Center for Veterinary Education, a 5,000 square foot, state-of-the-art educational center for veterinary professionals will be completed. Duncan’s Center for Veterinary Education is funded by a generous donation to Duncan’s Fund through Rochester Hope for Pets.  Javen Construction is the General Contractor on this project to be completed by the end of 2014.

Victor 2012 Capital Improvement project scheduled for completion in August 2014.

Under construction since June 2012, this $13 million renovation and addition project features a 7,800 sf second floor classroom addition at the Jr High School, a 22,000 sf aquatic center addition and renovations at the High School, a 7,500 sf classroom addition and library renovation at the Education Center, and renovations to the District Offices.

The following challenges were overcome by extensive verification of existing structural elements, timing of material approvals and delivery, and close coordination with the District, CM and other trades.

· Completed in time for the start of school in 2013, the Jr. High School 2nd floor Classroom addition was constructed over an occupied classroom space below.

· An aggressive 13 month schedule, which included sitework and utility relocations, was maintained for the pool addition for a late fall 2013 opening. This new facility boasts features such as a Clearspan structure, precast spectator seating, new locker rooms, and unique lighting to simulate waves.

· The existing pool and structure could not be demolished until June 2013 summer recess, yet the new 3 story structure in the same area required passable corridors in September with a completion date for the rest of the structure of August 2014.
